Online Course-Practice-based CPE Activity | Level 3 of Program 55 Contact Hours
This program is designed for pharmacists, pharmacy managers, educators, and students committed to developing a pharmaceutical care practice. Specifically, Levels 2 and 3 are for those interested in learning the details of the skills required and committed to applying the skills by providing and documenting pharmaceutical care with patients.

Level 2 objectives
Describe the philosophy of practice that is the foundation of pharmaceutical care.
Explain the responsibilities of the practitioner and the patient.
Describe the therapeutic relationship and its purpose/function in the practice.
Discuss the significance of the patient’s medication experience and how this information is used to guide drug therapy decisions.
Explain the thought process involved in the Pharmacotherapy Workup and discuss its function in pharmaceutical care practice.
Describe the steps involved in completing an assessment of a patient’s drug-related needs.
Describe the common causes of each of the seven categories of drug therapy problems.
Describe the components of a goal of therapy.
Explain the function of goals of therapy in the care plan process.
List the major functions involved in developing a care plan for a patient.
Explain the responsibilities of the pharmaceutical care practitioner when performing a follow-up evaluation.
Define the standard terms used to describe outcome status (stable, improved, etc.)
Apply the specific requirements for documenting patient care in practice.
Explain why ethical considerations play such a significant role in pharmaceutical care practice.
Discuss why all practitioners providing pharmaceutical care must:
a) adhere to the same philosophy of practice,
b) apply the same patient care process and
c) present patient cases in the same manner
Apply the knowledge and skills learned in level one and this level of the program to provide pharmaceutical care to 10 patients.
Level 3 objectives
Apply the knowledge and skills learned in the first two levels of the program to provide pharmaceutical care to 50 patients.
Describe the responsibilities of the practitioner and the patient.
Implement the standards of practice and document the care provided to your patients.
Upon completion of these requirements, an electronic statement of credit will be available within four weeks. Statements of credit will be available via the CE Management System.

Level two (2) is approved for 40 contact hours. Upon completion of these requirements, an electronic statement of credit will be available within four weeks. During the online course, learning materials are organized into six modules that will be released on a weekly basis. Participants can log in and access the available learning materials 24 hours/day-7 days/week, at their convenience during the course offering.
Participants will learn the skills and knowledge required to take responsibility for:
assessing each patient’s drug-related needs
developing care plans to meet these needs, and
completing a follow-up evaluation to determine the patient’s actual outcomes from the drug therapies.
Participants will be asked to complete the following activities:
Schedule appointments with two new patients each week (initially patients can be friends/family; later, patients should be selected from place of employment).
Document all patient encounters.
Write weekly journal reflections on patient encounters.
Participate in three practitioner meetings (face-to-face or in an online meeting room). Groups will be assigned once the course begins.
Patient documentation, journal reflections, and practitioner meeting documentation will be submitted online and assessed by course instructors.
Level 3
After completion of the Level 2 content, participants have a firm understanding of the skills required to practice pharmaceutical care. In Level 3 the emphasis shifts to accumulating experience. This includes solidifying and polishing one's skills and developing efficiency in the patient care process.
During this program, participants will:
Provide pharmaceutical care to forty-eight new patients and document a total of 50 encounters
Tuition for Level 2 is $725 and Level 3 is $245. For those registering for both levels together, a 20% discount is available, making the combined Level 2/3 tuition $776. No further discounts apply.
