John Patrick Gile, RPh, a highly motivated online learner from Rochester, Minnesota.
Degrees: AA (1972), BA (1975)
Current Job: Staff Pharmacist at Mayo Clinic (40 hrs/week)
CPE course taken: An Introduction to Pharmaceutical Care
"I was first attracted to this course because of my manager's enthusiasm. However, because I considered myself rather computer illiterate, I was slightly concerned about the course being online. It turns out that these initial fears were not warranted! The video presentations were particularly interesting, and now I am inspired to do more online coursework!
Online learning also made it easy for me to complete the course while balancing my work, wife, and children. It also helped that my employer was encouraging, reimbursed my tuition, and even took the course himself! If I had questions, the CPE staff responded with timely and informative emails. This entire experience was wonderful, I'd do it again in a heartbeat!"
Claude Powell, a repeat learner from Carlsbad, New Mexico.
Degree: BS (1979)
Current Job: Director of Pharmacy at Carlsbad Medical Center, New Mexico (40 hrs/week)
CPE course taken: Clinical Nutrition Support Certificate Program
"What first attracted me to online learning was the ability to do things at my own pace and on my time. After taking the course, I found that I could do both; the nature of online learning made the experience more flexible. At one point, I asked for an extension, which was accommodated. This allowed me the ability to balance my work and family. Also, it was great knowing my quiz scores instantly!
At Carlsbad Medical Center, where I am the current Director of Pharmacy, we monitor all adult TPNs. The Clinical Nutrition course was very good and very challenging. I was able to directly apply it to my current position in practice. Fortunately, my employer supported my efforts to enroll in an online CE program and paid for my tuition, having seen the value in the courses I have taken."
